Import
demap can import and convert just about any geographic data into a suitable GIS format. The process of converting hardcopy maps to digital data is often called 'digitising'. Digitsing can be done two ways. Automatically or manually. For small jobs we may need to manually digitise an area in order to create the data we need. On the Aral Sea map we have manually digitised the 2009 shoreline in ArcMap to reflect the changing shoreline of the sea.
Query
Once we have your data imported into our GIS we can begin to perform any number of queries on your data. For example the image on the left answers a very simple question. Where are all of the National Parks surrounding Bendigo located? ArcMap can display the answer to this question visually and in a database or table. We can then perform a number of actions on the selected objects like exporting them to another database or publication, re-colour the selection or label selection etc.
Visualisation
demap stongly believes the best way to represent your data is by using a map! Maps are an extremely useful way to show geographical information. GIS compliments our existing mapping tools and adds another exciting tool to our tool box. The image on the left is taken from the world's largest atlas Earth. Earth was produced using a number of GIS methods and principles.
